Photographs

I'm always looking for good photographs and I'm glad to give you extra credit for providing them.  Here's how it works:

1) Submit photos to me as email attachments in jpeg format.

2) Please name each photo with your last name_first initial_photo number.  Thus, my first two photos would be warms_r_1.jpg and warms_r_2.jpg.

3)Please submit complete information for each photo.  Do this by right clicking on the photo and selecting "properties."  Then select the "summary" tab.  On that tab, please fill out the title, subject, author, keywords, and comments fields.  In the comments field, provide a 25 word description of the photo.

4) If you are unable to submit photos electronically, you may submit paper copies but must include all of the same information (title, subject, author, keywords, and 25 word description).  Whether submitted electronically or on paper, all photos must have complete information to receive credit.

5) Photos of theme parks, zoos, Las Vegas casinos, and friends hanging out are not acceptable.  6) All photos become my property.  They will not be returned.  By submitting them, you agreeing to the contract on this web site (see below)

All photos receive credit EXCEPT:

Photos of friends, families, birthday parties, frat parties, etc. UNLESS they are particularly interesting, unusual, special, or different in some way.

Photos of Seaworld, or Disneyworld, or any other theme park (this includes hotel attractions in Las Vegas).

Photos taken as any zoo UNLESS they are particularly interesting, unusual, special, or different in some way.

People often ask me what subject matter is appropriate.  This is a difficult question to answer since I never really know what I will need.  Obviously, if you've been to exotic places and witnessed interesting things, I'd love photos of that.  However, I realize that most people have not had such experiences.   The best guide is to submit "good" pictures.  What's good?  Well, if you want my opinion, click here.

The number of photos you may submit and the number of points you receive for them vary from class to class so please check your syllabus for details.

You may submit photos at any time during the semester up to a final date indicated on your syllabus.

As mentioned above, by submitting these photos, you are agreeing to a contract.  The contract gives you and me certain rights. The full contract is available here but the highlights of it are:

1) You give me the rights to use the photos any way I see fit.
2) I give you points on your first exam, as described by your syllabus.
3) If I use any photo in a book for which I am paid royalties (such as Cultural Anthropology, or Anthropology Theory)  I pay you a one time fee of $25 IF AND ONLY IF I have your permanent address.  I do not pay for photos used on websites, whether for class or books.
4) You guarantee that the photos you give me are original and you have the rights to them.
